Skill development is one of the key priorities of the Government of India with the objective to develop skill sets with employability linkage. In this context, the shortage of manpower with green skills in the areas of environment and other related sectors is receiving increased focus from the government. As one of CSIR's premier Institute focusing on the environment, CSIR-NEERI plays a very important role in defining Leadership in Environmental Science and Engineering for Sustainable Development.
CSIR-NEERI's Green Skill Programs are targeted to support economic, social and environmental links between urban, peri-urban and rural areas by strengthening national and regional development planning. The global urgency for green growth, mitigation of environmental pollution and effective management of environment has resulted in the need for a human force with green skill sets necessary for establishing and sustaining new environmental industries, services and practices towards sustainable development. For environmentally sustainable development of the country, there is an urgent need of green skill professionals to work on environmental challenges and issues. The Programs endeavours to enhance the green skilling of participants to understand technical & complex aspects of environment and commitment towards sustainable development.
More than 7500 participants from rural and urban areas of India affiliated with various organizations had learned green skills on different topics of Environmental Science and Engineering. Participants profile includes Students, Professors, Academicians, Officials of Govt. Organizations (MoEFCC, CPCB, SPCBs, IFS officers, etc,) Professionals from Industries, private organizations, NGOs, etc. Green skill also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable socio-economic growth of the country, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
