A Novel Process for Preparing 1-Methyl-4-Phenyl-4-Cyano-Piperidine

"The present invention provides a process for preparing l-methyl-4-phenylpiperdine-4- carbonitrile by condensing benzyl cyanide with (2-chloroethyl) dimethylamine in the presence of sodamide and catalytic triethylamine followed by vacuum distillation in the presence of hydrochloric acid."

3
ALTERNATIVE PROCESS FOR MAKING OF PETHIDINE BASE

Pethidine also known as Meperidine (1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester) is considered as opioid class of drug and most widely used in pain medication of postoperative, labor and delivery pain. The process commonly used for the synthesis of pethidine is five step intermediate processes. The intermediate step no. 3 is inappropriate for large scale industrial operation due to higher temperature 190 to 200 oC & pressure of 1-3 mm requirements. Moreover oxide ring splitting process after esterification provides lower amount of output due formation of byproduct in the process. This makes the whole process costly and inappropriate at industrial level. Therefore it is important to investigate simple and cost effective process. With this background we have undertaken work to replace such complex step with simple & cost efficient techniques with simultaneously increasing the overall output of the final product. The main aim of the work is to make process ease at industrial scale and reduce the overall cost of the final drug.

IMPROVED PROCESS FOR PREPARING OCTYL METHOXY CINNAMATE

"A process for preparing Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate (OMC) is disclosed. The invention in particular relates to the process for preparing Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate by the condensation of carboxylic ester and substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of recycled solid catalyst"

HYBRID PROCESSES FOR SYNTHESIS OF PHOTON INDUCED METAL AND METAL OXIDE COMPOSITES AND PHOTOCATALYTIC APPLICATIONS THEREOF

New and hybrid processes for synthesis of photon induced metal and metal oxide composites for various photocatalytic applications have been developed. The invention addresses three aspects including :

  1. hybrid approach of photon induced synthesis of metal nanoparticles and composites;
  2. photocatalytic chemical looping reactions of water splitting and hydrogen peroxide splitting with concomitant steam generation by exploiting SPR effect which is unique and not reported so far
  3. other improved and new processes for water and wastewater treatment using surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) materials. The first aspect of hybrid approach of photon induced synthesis of metal nanoparticles and composites deals with 9 different options including
    • new photon induced oxidation reaction;
    • improved photon induced galvanic displacement
    • new photocatalytic galvanic displacement
    • improved photon induced and chemical reduction
    • new photocatalytic chemical reduction
    • new halide (chloride and fluoride) based photo deposition of metals on semiconductors
    • new CO2 based photo deposition of metals on semiconductors
    • new carbon nanoparticle based photo deposition and
    • new metal nanoparticle (MNP) based photo deposition of metals on semiconductors.

The second aspect includes photocatalytic chemical looping reactions of water splitting and hydrogen peroxide splitting with concomitant steam generation by exploiting SPR effect. The third aspect includes other applications of water and waste water treatment using SPR materials like simultaneous defluoridation and hydrogen generation and disinfection. Thus the new photocatalytic materials developed have been used for generating solar fuels includingsteam with promising industrial applications hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide for fuel cell applications for stationary and mobile sources as well as its use for internal combustion engine and other related applications as chemical and fuel of steam and hydrogen. These promising applications of hydrogen and steam may prove to be a revolutionary technical advancement required for fuel economy demanding carbon neutral energy production.
