Young Water Professionals Programme (YWP Programme)
The proposed one day workshop on January 22, 2011 is an initiative to provide young water professionals (students and water professionals under 35 years) a perspective on the challenges that the water sector faces, both from resources management as well as treatment technologies.

This workshop is also aimed at establishing link at the international level, in order to share and disseminate valuable information on activities in water issues and water related technologies especially in developing countries as well as to discuss methodologies, directions, regulations and other water scientific issues. It is targeted to institutions, practitioners and research groups with expertise on water environmental R&D, sustainable management and advanced technologies. The workshop will offer opportunities to share ideas related to water issues, as well as provide a platform through which young researchers and professionals can get to know each other and create long lasting relationships.

The workshop will be divided in two main sessions:

  • The Challenges for Indian Water Sector session will provide an overview of those challenges that the Indian Young Water Professionals will face in the future.
  •  The Career Compass session will provide an overview of the different career options that are available within the water sector.

Both sessions will have an extensive discussion time allowing Young Water Professionals to interact with their peers and the panelists.

The Young Water Professionals Programme aims to provide mechanisms to ensure that knowledge is not lost upon the retirement of personnel. The programme will provide a range of activities, services and initiatives to young professionals and students in the water and wastewater sector under the age of 35 years.

The main objective of the programme is to provide an informal forum for researchers to meet and exchange ideas with their peers. This programme will enable to connect the young professionals with employers, academic institutions and other professional associations to ensure that the future needs of the sector are understood and addressed and inter-generational dialogue is created to form links between senior professionals of the sector and young professionals.

Other objectives of the workshop are:

Make sure that the Young Water Professionals meet other Young Water Professionals and create professional and personal relationships that will last through out their career
Provide an opportunity for Young Water Professionals to create a dialogue with established professionals in the water sector about the challenges that they will need to face in the future
