Introduction
Human development and population growth exert many and diverse pressures on the quality and quantity of water resources and access to them.  During the past few decades the stress on the availability of water is growing and its quality is deteriorating. The water resources sector is presently encountering a series of interlinked issues which if not dealt in totality may prove to have serious ramifications in the long run.  Population explosion, unpredictable rainfall pattern, natural calamities and climate change further affect water resources. It is common knowledge that there is no life without water; the reference is not just water but safe water.

What is this event?
National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, a constituent laboratory under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, is organizing Water 2011 - NEERI, an International Conference on Sustainable Water Resource Management and Treatment Technologies.  This event will include 3-days Conference during January 19-21, 2011 and 1 day Young Water Professional Programme on January 22, 2011.  This conference is intended to draw an action plan and policy issues relevant to the current status of quality, quantity and future technology frontiers for provision of safe water. This Conference is organized in collaboration with International Water Association (IWA), Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) and Indian Association for Environmental Management (IAEM).

This Conference is a high-profile international event attracting hundreds of water professionals and organisations from across the world.

The strategic intentions for the Conference are to evolve mechanism of providing safe water for various usages considering limited availability of this important resource. The Conference also intends to bring together Indian and International stakeholders to protect precious water resources with a view to provide adequate and safe water particularly to those who need it most. The Conference includes presentation of findings from high – impact papers on conference themes out of which select papers will be published in the leading Indian and International Journals.

Eminent experts across the world from R&D and academic institutes, administrators, water supply authorities, government and non-government officials, industries, community representatives and other stakeholders are invited for presentation aspects on various subjects within the themes of the conference. The Conference is also intended for poster presentations on issues related to the themes.  The Conference also opens an arena for industries, research institutes, technologists, vendors and book publishers to exhibit their products and technologies in the conference exhibition. 

What is its purpose?
The International Conference is an important event and opportunity to water professionals to meet, exchange ideas, explore the state of the art and debate the key issues underlying the research and practice of water. Topics on water availability, people oriented technologies, role of stakeholders in water safety, field-oriented research for benefiting community and maximising use of water will be deliberated.

The organisers are expecting 500 delegates across the world to attend conference due to involvement of leading water professional associations of India and abroad.

Dates and Venue
The conference will be held during January 19-21, 2011 at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nehru Marg, Nagpur - 440020, India.  The campus is situated on NH-7.  Nagpur is well connected by road, rail and air to most of the important cities.
