Contamination of treated water within Water Distribution Network and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) loss are the two major challenges for Water Authorities in India. Many cities report 40 to 60% leakage and technical losses due to old corroded network. This is one of the reasons for restricting the water supply to few hours. Moving towards future “Smart Cities”, call for 24/7 infrastructure services vis-a-vis. a proactive approach with a plan to Repair, Maintain and Rehabilitate the ageing water distribution network. This can increase the Revenue and Improve Network Performance to meet the standards of Water Supply (Quantity & Quality) and Public Health.
