Big Data Analytics (BDA) is a knowledge revolution that could be even more powerful than the Internet. Huge volume of high frequency data is being generated around the world through multitude of sources such as websites, mobiles, satellite sensors, monitoring equipment, which needs to be processed to derive useful information. In this aspects, Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Machine and Deep learning algorithms have now become important tools.

Globally, BDA and AI are used for cutting edge applications in weather prediction, air and water quality modelling, disaster management and other smart applications in reducing the foot prints of anthropogenic activities on earth systems. With the advent of new paradigm Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Revolution 4.0, applications of BDA and AI will be inevitable tools to understand and manage the environmental systems for sustainable development. Therefore, there is an urgent need to upgrade the conventional modelling approach with data driven approach in order to better capture the dynamics of complex systems. To address the challenges in BDA and AI based environmental modelling approach, the present workshop is organized to brainstorm on potential applications of these tools in modelling environmental systems.
